Christine worked for 10 years in product management and logistics, and then moved into Emergency Administration and Logistics for NGOs. Since moving to France 10 years ago, she has been building her skills in teaching English as a foreign language.
Working in Emergencies highlighted for me the sheer luck we have in being born into and out of different opportunities and how affected one is by economical, political and environmental disasters beyond one’s control. Most importantly, working with vulnerable peoples showed me just how similar we all are, regardless of our nationality, race, ethnicity or religion, in searching for opportunities in this world for a life with hope and a future for ourselves and our families. However, with the large amounts of people who find themselves displaced this can seem like a daunting situation, and an overwhelming task. I love participating in Language Beyond Borders because it connects me directly to one person who has to create change in their life, and I get to feel useful in this overwhelming situation. One language lesson at a time has the ability to change someone else’s opportunities! At the same time each lesson enriches my life, my learning and my ability to be a Global citizen – this is a powerful exchange programme!
