After a very long wait, Language Beyond Borders students Nagham AL Jamali and Wael AL Houssni and their young child have finally arrived to Canada!
Speaking about their arrival yesterday, one of Wael’s sponsors told us “We were chatting in English for the first time… his English has really improved since the last time I saw him.” A big thank you goes to both of these students’ teachers, Rand Safi & Hannah Jane Mold for enabling them to improve their English communication skills and to therefore open up more opportunities for themselves to make an immediate start with their careers and education in Canada.
Nagham was so touched by the support of her volunteer friends, she said she hopes to be a teacher and a volunteer for other newcomers. “You have all inspired me to be a better person” she said. The day after the family arrived, their sponsors and new community held a party for them to welcome them to Toronto.
Being able to communicate their needs, their gratitude, their feelings and experiences with those who helped them reach safety will have been of enormous import to them both. Nagham is hoping to pursue a course of higher education now that she has reached safety, but more important than their ambitions now that they are in Canada, is the future of their young son.
He will have every chance ahead of him now because of the efforts of his parents. Everyone at Language Beyond Borders wishes this beautiful family all the best.
