Mabel Prieto, who founded LBB and is its director, has travelled to San Francisco, USA this week. She is at the Facebook Headquarters to meet with the other participants in the Facebook Community Leadership Programme.
The Leadership Programme is a year-long programme that supports social communities who use Facebook for good, to connect people, and to bring the world together. Only 115 communities were selected out of 6000 applicants to the programme!
This is the 3rd and last meet-up at Facebook HQ as we near the end of the programme. With the support we’ve received from Facebook over the last year we’ve been able to grow our community and reach even more students.
We’ve received training in how to better structure, grow and manage the organisation’s activities. Facebook has also supported us in creating a comprehensive online training for our volunteers and increasing our web-presence and communications.
While in San Francisco, Mabel will connect with leaders of other communities, each learning from one another in order to further push all of our communities forward! Working together in this way, lifting each other up and learning from each other along the way, is at the core of our values as Language Beyond Borders.
Just as our teachers learn from our students while the students are learning language and exchanging cultural and soft skills, we also learn from the experiences of the other organisations in the FB Community Leadership Programme. We all have the same mission, to make the world a smaller, and more hospitable place for all. By working together, we are a few big steps closer to achieving our goal.
